<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been painting but was not satisfied with anything that I thought was post worthy. How excited was I when I learned a winner of my donated pet portrait for my local SPCA's fundraising auction contacted me with an adorable furry family member to paint. The winner is going to make this a present and asked if I could make it larger than the size she won for the auction. We agreed the 20x16 was going to make a wonderful gift. I decided to use a head shot from one photo and the body pose from another. I smiled through out the whole painting process because who wouldn't love this adorable pooch!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was contacted by a friend for a special request. We had met in High School which is located in Japan on a US Army base called Camp Zama. We have not seen each other in over 40 years but reconnected thanks to Facebook and our alumni association. His daughter was getting married in September and he asked if I could paint her favorite flower as a wedding gift from her parents. I thought it was an amazing idea but then I felt the terrific pressure to make the painting as special as the sentiment behind the gift. My friend and I worked out a few preferences but he left it primarily up to me. It took about 3 weeks to bring it to a point to where I thought it was finished. I hand inked a dedication to their daughter on the back of the canvas and shipped it off crossing my fingers. My friend and his wife approved but we had to wait a couple more weeks until the wedding. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A couple of days ago, he was kind enough to take the time in the hustle and bustle of reception and aftermath to snap a pic and then later send it to me saying that she "loved it." I told him that the honor and pleasure was all mine for letting me be a part of such a special occasion in their family's life. </span></div>

Daisy supposedly barked at this image probably because it is bigger than her compact self. </span></div>

He told to wife to sleep in the cave and the next morning he would be gone but would be able to deliver them from all starvation. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left; "><span ><span><span style="font-size: 100%;"><br /></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left; "><span ><span><span style="font-size: 100%;">The next morning, the wife woke under the dappled shade of a great tree that had grown overnight in front of the cave. The tree was laden heavy with ripe breadfruit that the family gratefully ate to satiate their hunger. Legend has it Rauta'ata transformed himself into the breadfruit...the trunk representing his body, the leaves and branches his arms and the breadfruit his head. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left; "><span ><span><span style="font-size: 100%;"><br /></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left; "><span ><span><span style="font-size: 100%;">This family was so moved by the legend that they wanted a painting to honor the breadfruit. I suggested they use their daughter as a model instead of having the breadfruit in the piece. The daughter grabbed a Tupperware bowl sat after wrapping a pareo over her top and jeans and sat for a photo. Then also gave me a photo of her in a headdress from a recent performance. So this painting was a result of melding together photos of breadfruit, headdress, her pose and my imagination for the woven basket. </span></span></span></div><div style="font-size: 100%; line-height: normal; font-family: Georgia, serif; text-align: center; "><span > </span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05599714103955686190noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765631622553247399.post-78947328101649531372012-02-27T21:19:00.005-08:002012-03-04T09:17:34.385-08:00She's simply "Smush"<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtl8Dnbt38Q_pfLIOt5eHj2kcxSqc32OPkPPNLxJy1WyO1mUnEq9dcxIMH1yZ-dK5CN1R2k-1LeTXtAn7tg81NYKQt2Zi0GMlrAx7FAGvUN27_QEKbpfkOntAFWzn6LrGGKxPjNZFz98U/s1600/smush+8x10.jpg" style="font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><span><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 318px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtl8Dnbt38Q_pfLIOt5eHj2kcxSqc32OPkPPNLxJy1WyO1mUnEq9dcxIMH1yZ-dK5CN1R2k-1LeTXtAn7tg81NYKQt2Zi0GMlrAx7FAGvUN27_QEKbpfkOntAFWzn6LrGGKxPjNZFz98U/s400/smush+8x10.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5714052348244853730" /></span></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span><b>"Smush"</b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span>8x10</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span>oil on gallery wrapped canvas</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><span> Smush is a special kitty with 'thumbs' on her front paws. Since this was a spur of the moment trip, I only had two weeks to get the image and send proofs an changes back and forth to the son. In the end, I was honored to have been asked to be a part of a precious gift from such a loving and thoughtful man and Cindi is truly blessed to have the love of a special son. I told both Cindi and her son I wanted to capture Roger's twinkle in his eye. He always seemed to know something that amused him and he was a brilliant comet in our life. Hugs to all my friends and family during the holiday season and all through out the year. </span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05599714103955686190noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765631622553247399.post-84980491954688429312011-11-21T23:56:00.000-08:002011-11-22T01:16:50.438-08:00Simple Pleasures<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPSQwKdGPBE7PxZLN_X5n8xesFeBFvL6VcnFN_9r0VEPJHcXmfS9H8PK745LEbWERsqLT4QyhN83AfkYs_obkKxfhVOcncaodLELz8T_V4qKQADbhaKeUSpJQX6NQbmkWu4-jVAWNqLc/s1600/happy+plane.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 392px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPSQwKdGPBE7PxZLN_X5n8xesFeBFvL6VcnFN_9r0VEPJHcXmfS9H8PK745LEbWERsqLT4QyhN83AfkYs_obkKxfhVOcncaodLELz8T_V4qKQADbhaKeUSpJQX6NQbmkWu4-jVAWNqLc/s400/happy+plane.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5677729183511995138" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Happy Plane</b></div><div style="text-align: center;">6x6 oil on canvas</div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhblijIoQM6QToqpmH76UslH6PrILIfWdUMpUAvHn8PipYB2R53kAqD-kN-YGwkNITHJlxvuZc4itSgTPmtBzz1vlfSEm-5kOEfII_wtwff42ObDdQLlPXZNqdW8lEj2qcSX4JzWTs-CmA/s1600/silly+seal.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 395px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhblijIoQM6QToqpmH76UslH6PrILIfWdUMpUAvHn8PipYB2R53kAqD-kN-YGwkNITHJlxvuZc4itSgTPmtBzz1vlfSEm-5kOEfII_wtwff42ObDdQLlPXZNqdW8lEj2qcSX4JzWTs-CmA/s400/silly+seal.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5677729181131793954" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Silly Seal</b></div><div style="text-align: center;">6x6 oil on canvas</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Before the fancy cars, all we needed to be happy was to bounce back and forth on little rides at our local parks when we were kids. I found these adorable rides in a little park next to a beach on Lake Superior when I visited my friend a couple of months ago. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05599714103955686190noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765631622553247399.post-48521794586368929922011-11-19T12:16:00.001-08:002011-11-19T12:28:14.562-08:00Angel Trumpet<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHXTLILwrDdPz6-w_mHmq_nLBQ-90lZ3iyQ668DJkIZA3XCLQPawHAT5VxpjJsFdkB5T-WRmqGRm_YaZmNhgfX00arObLEbQJxoNVRlbJwB0MIuyINAp1Sfuu60TeTCf5SWj5rjTaodlw/s1600/angeltrumpet+16x20.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 319px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHXTLILwrDdPz6-w_mHmq_nLBQ-90lZ3iyQ668DJkIZA3XCLQPawHAT5VxpjJsFdkB5T-WRmqGRm_YaZmNhgfX00arObLEbQJxoNVRlbJwB0MIuyINAp1Sfuu60TeTCf5SWj5rjTaodlw/s400/angeltrumpet+16x20.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676805444269409234" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><b>Mendocino Angel Trumpets</b></div><div style="text-align: center;">16x20 oil on canvas</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">When I went to Mendocino with my kids this last summer, flowers were blooming everywhere around the quaint town of seaside Mendocino. I drew this sketch as an initial idea:</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXl2919BAhj6CzAXg9vne1XPQfrwufhSTI5BCiV-aaIr08MBo4DmqFXYM1cSE23BjECsoHNWGDdDQwJAK1Zd5kfTrF3MvRHWs2kJ3S0pBJFz_DH6f5RlZ9axXTOk2lbY71E7da-RcrrEo/s1600/sketch1.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXl2919BAhj6CzAXg9vne1XPQfrwufhSTI5BCiV-aaIr08MBo4DmqFXYM1cSE23BjECsoHNWGDdDQwJAK1Zd5kfTrF3MvRHWs2kJ3S0pBJFz_DH6f5RlZ9axXTOk2lbY71E7da-RcrrEo/s400/sketch1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623828124395394114" /></a>He was okay with it, but during the night I came across a photo of a man in a mod Nehru jacket, [anyone under 40 will not know about Nehru jackets and love beads] and he was leaning against a Bentley. He gave his final approval for the finished painting: *phew* and as soon as it drys a few more days, I hope to get it on its way to Belfast, Ireland.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05599714103955686190noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765631622553247399.post-82790948308129242952011-06-27T21:05:00.000-07:002011-06-27T21:45:07.711-07:00Why did the Chicken....II<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJLaoNghzKFH0HaW6eVTr2ehAgauLF7VuWwRkYGdK6G20rzi-vcw0LDuADrFk1HjqfCPqvOUUL4GeBVVe_BBwdIHs2cYCmfmUfDtxCp-1blzp4oGRUbfZjbbuhNaBLts7Aogggom6Xg9Y/s1600/Chick+II.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 298px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJLaoNghzKFH0HaW6eVTr2ehAgauLF7VuWwRkYGdK6G20rzi-vcw0LDuADrFk1HjqfCPqvOUUL4GeBVVe_BBwdIHs2cYCmfmUfDtxCp-1blzp4oGRUbfZjbbuhNaBLts7Aogggom6Xg9Y/s400/Chick+II.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5623127100660381714" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" ><u><br /></u></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">9x12 oil on gallery wrapped canvas</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">Some of you who have been viewing my posts for a while may remember my first chicken crossing the road. [ click <a href="http://sheilatajima.blogspot.com/2009/05/why-did-chicken.html">HERE </a>to view the post] Well someone who had view this first version on FineArtAmerica.com wanted to buy the original. I realized I committed an awful faux pas because I no longer had the original and had not updated my web page. She allowed me to paint another version a little bigger and I thought better and she was under no obligation to buy. </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">Fortunately she loved this version and said she had been looking for the perfect present for her sister's 50th birthday. I had to ask of course....why the chicken? She explained that her sister loves chickens and her life motto is "forward progress" and she thought the sprinting chicken represented that attitude. The client also thinks the fact that I am retired Law Enforcement would add to her sister's delight because she also loves crime dramas. The client was kind enough to share that she had worked for the Art Institute in Chicago in the 20th Century Department and later became a graphic artist so imagine my delight when she emailed me to say the painting was even more beautiful in person. </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">This is half of the reason I have been away from my blog.
