In one of my art forums the challenge was to do an abstract and I must admit I was totally lost so did not participate. You've done a good job here. I can make out the "Vessel" I think. LOL! Not having done much abstract, I don't know what inspires the work. I think sometimes its a study in color interactions, sometimes a statement about life or nature. But of course that can mean anything from the universe to a pinprick full of tiny organisms. What you have done can lead to an interesting series. Your painting suggests a pure plain vase form, some opaque contents (full of suggestions)and the tension created by balancing on the edge. It has an ephemeral quality to it. From what I've seen/read/heard, abstract painters create in many different ways. Some plan the initial stages and let the rest "happen." Others just create as they go, and so on. In reality, the process of designing a painting means the artist is engaged in abstraction, even if the work is representational. We must all consider the overall composition in terms of value, color, line, etc. and these are abstract elements.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11037549177881696434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1765631622553247399.post-72144258285758488362009-11-06T11:29:13.438-08:002009-11-06T11:29:13.438-08:00Great work! That being said, as an answer to your question, I don't really know but I would imagine it's like any other art form and there are as many ways to approach it as there are artists. I plan only that I want lots of layers to create interest and depth but as far as having a preconceived idea, the finish is always a surprise to me. <br /> Don't you love it when they turn out the way you like?!
