Donovan

"Donovan"
20x16 oil on canvas

My still 16 almost 17 year old is in that interesting boy/man stage of his life. He towers over me and his father but still delights in doing things kids like to do. I captured him when he wasn't feeling well in this POST two years ago. I captured him in a sketch a year ago in this POST so maybe instinctively I know he's only going to be hanging around the house a couple more years at the most and then he'll be off building a life on his own. I wanted his portrait to be unique and quietly different like he is.

Un regard vif et profond dans ce beau portrait. On sent aussi l'impétuosité de la jeunesse. Très belle réussite.
Les nuances de couleurs employées sont de bon aloi et apportent une fougue certaine.
gros bisous.

I often look at my kids and wish I could capture them in a moment and keep it forever, you did that with Donovan and it is beautiful. What a gift you have!

Donovan! Where did I get Dominic from? (Please forgive my lapse into idiocy. I've noticed this happening a bit more often of late and I am not at all please about that.) He is one fine and handsome young man, Sheila. I know he makes you proud of him so very much!! Beautiful job on his portrait!

Wow. WOW! I think it's so hard to paint your own family, and you did THIS! I think you'll have to fight him over who keeps it. Handsome young man. And don't be too sure about the 'couple of years' thing. I cried and cried when mine left home... only to have them back a couple of years later!! LOL!

p.s. congrats on the T-shirt win!

This is a stunning portrait of a rather good look fellow! You must be so proud Sheila. He may go off one day to make his own way, but he'll still be your 'little boy'.

Stunning colors in this portrait! He has such an intense yet kind look, and as you say, that time between boy and man. You have such a way of capturing the essence of a person.
Loved the cat too!
