Artistic License

Versus a motorcycle license that is. My pal Mark asked for another painting of a motorcycle he owns. He specifically wanted the stone mountain in the background but not the pedestrian sign. He left everything else up to me.

Although he wanted it on the same square format as his first painting, I could not do it justice so I painted on a portrait format. I moved the bike over to the left a little and had to make up some parts of the painting that I didn't see or were in the way. We'll see what he thinks of it when he gets back from his road trip from Texas to Arkansas.

This is a great interpretation of the scene! I like the liveliness you impart to it with your brushwork and vibrant color. I also like the fact that you incorporated the "blockiness" of the outcrop into the structure of the motorcycle. Great work!!

Sheila, your choice for a vertical format sure was good...no way would you have done justice to this scene in a square format. Love the energy that your are getting in your paintings.

So Cool! love that you did choose a portrait format, it would have been difficult to get the great perspective of the rocks. Love the colors and mood, you can feel the sense of freedom a motorcyclist can have. Nice! He's gonna love it!

Wonderful strong painting. Everything in the painting exudes strength and power...the rock, the bike, the strong colors. It all really works. The owner will love it.

Very powerful, Sheila...vibrant colors. I thought it was kinda weird to see a pedestrian sign in that location anyway...go figure. Good to see ya back, and Marilyn just plain glows!!!

Sheila!

The original reference photo is amazing! That in and of itself is a work of art.

Your interpretation is much looser and free-flowing. The blues in the sky and shadows are lovely!

Sheila, I think your interpretation of the photo is right on and the changes you have made really show the strides you are making of not just copying your subject. This is really an energetic painting and so perfectly captures the subject. Great job! Love it!

Surely he will be wowed by this piece, Sheila. I was once given an artistic license in a workshop and I use it frequently!

Also, your final shadow on the bridge is perfect. I am learning about neutralizing colors this week from Stephen Quiller. You did it nicely.
