I got about 4 more photos from my local SPCA the other day. I already finished a cat and you can see Vargas at the AFSA blog. I just wanted to show you the small jpg I am given to work with. I know it's not a perfect portrait but the staff almost always recognizes who the critter is.

oh, he's sweet, Sheila! you have a way of capturing expression.
Wow Sheila, I've been a bit busy and not been able to pop in as much as usual, and what do I find, lots of art, lots of good work and lots of posts to read trhough, you have been so busy, your energy is just fantastic, all those who know you must be amazed!
That is really not a lot to work with at all, not much detail to see, but you've done a fantastic job! That little bloke is adorable, I can't believe anyone would give him up to be rehomed.
He's beautiful, Sheila, just beautiful!
Sheila, your petraits are getting to the point where one day, your subject is gonna reach out and lick ya. Great job on this one and I like you posting the reference photo...makes a difference.
Sheila, your animal paintings are just awesome. You breathe such life into them and I just want to put this little fellow on my lap!
Beautiful painting Sheila! I love the color you chose for the background!
Yikes!
That really is a small jpg, Sheila!
It may not be a perfect likeness, but the dog looks happy and that might be the most important thing here.
Also, even though the photo was tiny I do love all the shadows and darks in the original picture's background.
I would've loved for some of that to be added to the painting as well instead of just a solid green background.
Just a suggestion.
