Clockin' In and Out

I'm sure many of you have never had to do this, but I used to have to use a time clock to document when I arrived and left work at a men's clothing warehouse many years back.

What brought this memory back? I was at a downtown Oakland Art Gallery for an informational talk held in the basement of the building. The basement is also a part of the gallery as you can see the modern paintings and photos on the walls. However with all the contemporary images that commanded my attention, the one thing I was fascinated with was this vintage time clock.

I painted this on a wood panel and kind of like the way the painting itself turned out to be rustic and vintage looking itself.

Love this piece Sheila! Beautiful colors and nice and loose. I just had a tour of a metal works factory and found many interesting scenes like this. Can't wait to try and paint them.

oh my yes, I recall the big ker-chunk sound they made. You are right, it seems contemporary in the style you painted it. It worked hard during it's lifetime and it deserves this recognition. lol..seriously, nice job.

I always had a fear that someone would find the old wall clock or electric outlet more interesting than my exhibit!
I'm with you, that old wall clock especially with the old paint still on its cord and the wonderful shadow thrown on the wall by the exhibit lights would grab me too.
You created a most interesting piece from it. Your mind and eye are alwasy on the prowl, even if you don't realize it.

Sheila, It is funny how the thing that we have connections with make the best art. Very nicely done!

Oh does that time clock bring back memories of one of my summer jobs in a bowling shirt factory. Love the blue shadows. Great job, Sheila!

You'll need to wait 3 more minutes before you clock in or you'll get 15 minutes of unapproved overtime. This fun and well-done painting just took me back to my factory days. Thanks alot! ;-)

I love it when artists can capture a piece of history as you have done here, Sheila. I imagine many of us over a certain age have also punched in and out (time clocks are still in use in many places, though newer models, of course! LOL). I am intrigued by your painting on a wood board too. I am reminded of how many of the old masters painted on a variety of materials. I love the versatility of painting! Great job with this piece of art work unto itself!

Yep, I remember punching one of these daily (although I often felt like *I* was one getting punched)! Subject matter is everywhere. Kudos on this great one!

Keep up the great work!

Sheila, I certainly do remember using one of these time clocks at a place I used to work at many, many years ago. There is art in everything if you just look...huh?
