"Sauna"

Here is that sauna I mentioned in "Dubious Welcome". I was struck again by the single light source coming from the only small window into the sauna. Though it had sat idle for the entire winter, it still had such a warm and welcome feeling with its log walls and cedar setting.

I would love to actually experience a sauna such as this one day.

Well I'd like to share it with you! The distinctive thing about this and many of your paintings is the dark outlines, it's really your signature style. Not quite impressionist but not quite not either. I've enjoyed the last few pictures you've posted. Thanks for sharing.

you're ability to capture mood, light and texture with such immediacy, impresses the hell out of me.

Looks like it would be very relaxing. I agree with Mark on your signature style. I could see a piece of yours anywhere and know it was your painting. Gorgeous work!!

The energy and richness of your brushstrokes and palette give life to a room that most of us would probably never have noticed. Sweet!

Love this. I actually did experience a wooden sauna like this once in Finland in the 70s. Quite fun. Then you'd run out and roll in the snow. Great painting.

I seem to have missed some of your posts dear Sheila! It was great going back through them though! And what a great painting of the sauna! Incredible colours. Hope you get to experience it really soon.

What a great job here, Sheila. You've captured the rusticity of the place and make me wish I could see it in person. Lovely composition and you have such a fabulous eye for interesting scenes.

Nice Sheila. read some of the comments posted here and yes. You have a style I would recognize anywhere. Keep that up.
Thanks for the blog comment. Yes. Cool is nice but cold such as we have had is really something. we get snow through June but it is interspersed usually with a few nice days. But.. Today there is a yellow ball in the sky and I do believe it is the sun. Supposed to get clear up to 50 today.

This brings back memories of the Swedish sauna my husband and I enjoyed years ago in the dead of winter in northern Minnesota. Great painting, I hope you get to try an authentic sauna someday!

Sweet dynamic brushwork. (...and I know I keep saying that, Sheila. But it's SO outstanding.) More, please.

I've missed the last few postings and it was a treat to catch up. I'm impressed with your productivity because as you know from my post mine has been nil. I love the heavy texture of this painting! You direct strokes makes my eyes feel the wood. Super!
