"Wait"

Last week, I was at a cabin on a gorgeous lake front property when I saw this red Adirondack style chair with it's homemade foot stool.

I saw it was waiting for its first occupant to use it to look over the clear blue lake. It waits through the winter covered by snow, through early spring and finally starts getting used during the last spring.

I could not wait like this noble chair in my youth. Now that I'm much older, I can see the wisdom in waiting for that opportunity rather than chasing after it at times. I do however have the choice to move on if my patience expires.

Oh, my favorite type of chair!! My son built two red ones a few years ago and he modified them to look like lobsters (he lives in Maine). Nice painting!

this is a lovely painting. The yellow light on the grass and the super dark shadows really create the atmosphere of a day at the lake. Are you familiar with Fairfield Porter? Here's one in the collection at the university down the street...I've always liked it and his other work.

an empty chair does seem to have a lot of patience..a very good symbol. Yes, maturity is a great thing. I keep wondering why everyone is so unhappy with getting older. It's wonderful---like this painting!

Sheila, the way you placed the chair low on the picture plane enhances the feeling of waiting. Nice job and I hope you had a relaxing time on the lake.

I so love Adirondack chairs. They are just so comfortable! Waiting? I don't bide my time well. Great job too on the shadows and sun play, Sheila!

A lovely painting accompanied by lovely, wise words. i never understood what "youth is wasted on the young" meant, until now. if we could just pair up a wiser thought process with tight buns we'd all have it goin' on. another winner Sheila!

Beautiful chair and footrest, Sheila. It looks like you used a blue ground. Whether or not you did, the effect of the blue around the edges of the chair and its shadow really give it a fun quality. Very nice

These remind me of my father who would build these chairs. He never painted them red though. I really like this painting.

Sheila!

The interesting thing about this painting is that the chair appears to be in the middle of nowhere. So very isolated.

Did you plan it that way or was it a subconscious thing?

Hmmmm....

Either way, this painting appears to have a much deeper meaning upon first glance.
