Can we say "avoidance"?

I'm still struggling with my DSFDF challenge.  So I needed to have a little instant gratification.

I searched some photos my friend took when he came to visit and found one of a horse grazing about 200 feet from us.  I just blew it up and painted a quickie.

I feel better...now to decide whether or not I need to start over with the challenge....

This is great! Nice drawing of the horse and a great "feeling" of paint!

Here is your kick in the pants!
Avoidance is sometimes necessary and you did a nice painting while doing it.
You don't say what your struggles are with the challenge but whatever you do...persevere! It's good that you stepped away from the challenge if it was bugging you...now get back to it! You may or may not like what you end up with, and you may or may not post it but you will learn from it, and ultimately that is worth so much more....
Lecture over!

Sheila,
Your painting tells us that you are feeling better. Deeply delighted to hear that and I am strongly believe that you can overcome your DSFDF challenges soon.

Keep on painting..if you wish.

Grace and peace to you always,

Dana , perfect lecture. I'm sketching everything but DFSDF I'm taking that lecture for me. Your horse is lovely, I do like that mystery look and the shadow is great .

I'm not sure I agree with Dana unless of course you truly want to do the challenge. Sometimes artists feel pressure to participate in a group challenge (whether DSDF or one of the other online challenges, Wet Canvas monthlies, etc.) when they don't really take to the subject matter, and my feeling is, an image either it grabs you or it doesn't, and paint what you love. It usually comes out better.

More importantly, if this keeps up Sheila you are going to have a successful show of paintings just based on warming up to a challenge, and that's no small thing. Love this one!

Sheila, their is a insightful line from LOST in The Moth episode where Locke says "Struggle is nature's way of strengthening it..."

Sheila!

This definitely looks like a quickie.

Very loose and almost abstract in appearance.

The colors are very loud and intense. The horse almost appears to glow!

Neat!

Love the looseness, the colors, the way you kept the direction on the strokes the same...looks like the grass is waving in the wind... and the bright outline around the horse and spots of bright magenta in the sky are the perfect touch to bring it all together.
