Another quick sketch

I know I need to do more, but I was inspired to draw this quick sketch last night.

Donovan was watching TV and our cat Meatball hopped up and used him as a podium to look out our back window.
They are best buds, can you tell?

Sometimes the quick spontaneous sketches are the best. You have captured so well how boys lounge around, and the cat sitting with him is priceless. You should do more of these, this is great!
Your post about "making" it in the art world was very interesting. I think selling art as a business is a very difficult thing to do. The average wage for a professional visual artist here in Canada is about $12,000 a year. I've always thought that it is about embracing a life style, and being passionate about what you paint and draw, knowing there will never be much money in it. Also, its almost impossible to juggle family, work, and art. If only we could all be independently wealthy :)

Sheila, I am in awe of your artistic abilities. Every piece you do seems even better than the last. This is fabulous and I well recognize your son from the last painting you did of him. I am also happy to see that I am not the only who has a 'fat' kitty! LOL

Wonderful, Sheila. So nice to have great models in your own home. I have a friend who always uses her sons as the models for her gorgeous watercolors on Yupo -- have recognizable, half abstract work. Don't know a name for her style.

Sheila, this is just wonderful, a warm, spontaneous sketch. Really, I feel the best kind of art. Your talents continue to amaze me. I also love the portrait above of Gene Teirney!

Sheila, this is a great sketch...you really captured the essence of boyhood and the "lounge-ness" and the stillness yet alive...very nice rendering!

Sheila, your piece is fantastic. This would make a fine etching, or great to have as is. It reminds me of Ashcan artist John Sloan...only better for a number of reasons. The most important one being that it is so personal to you. When you do art in this way the pieces will have a real heartbeat.
