Mmmojito!

I had been admiring Kelley MacDonald's cocktail paintings when she threw out a challenge. I was never confident about painting glass or liquid but after studying her paintings I gave it a go.

I also wanted to try the black gesso that Carol Schiff recommended and Deano uses a lot of the time.

Of course I could have chosen an easier subject than a mint filled Mojito but it is what it is.

I have never had a mojito, Sheila, but that sure looks yummy! So refreshing! You did awesome with the glass and the background is just perfect for showing that glass to its best advantage. I'm dreaming of southern plantations, fans, dreams and hammocks...

Sheila...you've done a wonderful job on this piece. I did one oil painting with a glass vase and had trouble with that. I love how you've handled the mint and ice in the glass. What makes up a Mojito?

Mmmm. I want one of those! You did a terrific job with the glass and the black gesso helps to make it even more believable. Really nice.

Your work is reflecting astounding growth with each new post! Bravo! Amazing job! We think glass is difficult, when all it is a series of values arranged in particular way. You portrayed it perfectly!

I feel like I can grab this glass right off the canvas and quench my thirst and more! Great job!

Sheila, You amaze me with the range of subject matter that you tackle. Great job of this, I really like the way the background fades to brown at the bottom. Hope you enjoyed the gesso.

Thanks for the link, and all you comments on my blog. To answer your question, the painting today is 11x14.

See you on the net!

I love the idea of the black gesso in a painting like this. My mouth is watering, girl, and it's 9:30 A.M.! Thanks for the video, too ;)

Absolutely delicious! Sheila, spot on with painting liquids with that special excitement that only you can impart to canvas (well, in this case, Mylar).

Bises
