Bandit the Art Dog
This is Benny Alba's sweet pooch Bandit. When I first saw him I loved his unique markings and his crystal blue eyes.
Benny gave me the liberty to use a large unique size canvas [14x 43] and to paint him with a non-traditional palette.
He's very laid back and an awfully sweet dog. I really enjoyed painting him.
What a lovely description of a dog. I think the color combination and intensity create a saturated beauty that I could just gaze at for hours, Sheila. Thanks for coming over to visit OWL blog and for your sweet comment. <3
Sheila, I will be the first of many to comment. I love your use of the non-traditional pallette and unique canvas size. Perfect for this wonderful pet!
Great composition in a format that I love. This reminds me of George Rodriguez's Blue Dog series, not because Bandit is blue, but because of your bold graphic colors!
Hi Sheila, thanks for coming by! You're right, we seem to "know" most of the same blogging artists... I love this painting! Am adding your link to mine... Lynx says hi... Cheers, J
Striking Sheila - I think this is my favorite style of animal painting. I especially like when you work on big canvasses! unleash that raw artistic power girley! ; ) love and big hugs...
Bandit's persona is perfectly captured by Sheila's art. His eyes are riveting yet with a certain kinda cartoonlike quality. He's part Australian Cattle Dog (coloration, eyes & legs) and Akita (hair, torso, tail). They call this type of coloration "blue" with Cattle Dogs, so Sheila did it right again there too.
Sheila chose the size and porportions of this canvas. Quite a challenge and oh my, what a success story! She has courage and drive. YES!
I can hardly wait to see it in person, already liking it immensely. Delicious colors, delightful shapes.
Bandit has his own art blog, thanks to Sheila's encouragement. banditsartadventures.blogspot.com
Sheila, thanks for commenting and visiting my blog! i have a general weakness for dogs, they are in the top range of my favorite animals :-) love the emotive expression
Oh Sheila, what an amazing portrait of Bandit. Who, but you, would have thought of painting him on a canvas of those proportions and how incredibly well it's worked. Great stuff!
This painting just made me smile at first look. Love the bright eyes and the flopped ear over on one side. The colors are cheerful and energizing. Go Bandit! Outstanding,Sheila.
Oh, Sheila, I love this. Love the colors and the way you used the long, skinny canvas. This feels like a little bit of a departure for you, and is exciting for all of us who watch your work. xo
