Your Opinion Please

Actually your help in pricing this would be greatly appreciated. Etsian or not, what do you think of $45.00 for a custom mini-portrait of your pooch or kitty on a matching mini-easel?

Would you pay that price for a 2 1/2 x2 1/2 inch gallery wrapped canvas with matching wood easel?

Give me your two cents on this. I would really appreciate it.

More hugs!

Pricing is so difficult, I spent weeks deciding of I should put my prices up and I did only to get even more commissions so it's worth trying out prices, you can always change them again.

hi sheila!
oh my goodness! i LOVE your pug painting! He is fabulous! i totally agree with karie. pricing is so personal. i always say if you feel comfortable with the price and it sells and you feel happy, that was the right price to charge.

I must agree with the preceding two. A painting is worth what a customer will pay for it. If you are comfortable with that price, by all means try it and see what happens. If you get over whelmed with orders, up the price!

"overwhelmed" lol... Thanks Dean.... I just had a vision of what that might be like. Ah, it was nice while it lasted. hugs.

Hi Sheila - what a character! as a pug owner, oh my gosh, it's wonderful. I think for small paintings like that, if you're not spending a tremendous amount of time on them, $45 is a good price plus shipping. And I totally agree with everyone that as demand increases, your prices go up!! thanks for sharing a cute puggy face, it made my day.
xxoooo and pughugs from Texas...

Awe shucks - I'm a sucker for pugs! Great portrait! I'd definitely pay $45. I love the idea of the easel, too. :-)

Sheila,Commissions warrant a higher price than just a beautiful generic pug, because it has to look like the owners dog, which takes longer.
I think its charming, worth every penny, whatever you charge,..just remember commissions warrant a higher price.
I have awarded passed on the lemonade award to you for positive attutude blogs, come and pick it up if you want to. Lindax

I think it's a good price, especially for custom work. Give it a try, you can always lower if you have to!

PS - I posted a video just for you! LOL!

Hey, Shiela - I LOVE the pug, the teeny pug on the teeny canvas and easel. I have a half-dozen of those easels and canvases, and haven't figured out WHAT to do with them - but I think you're onto something.

Here's what I think about prices. First, ditto to what everyone said. Second, I believe you live in an affluent area, yes? So that will influence things.

How long did it take you to paint that pugger? If it took three hours, that would make a difference, but I bet it took you far less.

Honesly, I think it's WORTH $100 or more. But I would start pricing them at $25. If they sell like hotcakes, then you can call that the special introductory price and raise your prices.

An artist I greatly admire, personally and talent-wise (you'd like his stuff, I think: Murad Sayen, http:////www.shadowchasers.com/) told me that, as I am just starting out, it is my obligation to be humble when it comes to prices.

So that's my 2 cents.

Hey Sheila,

Don't under price them. Figure out how long you think it is going to take you on an average to paint one and make it worth your while. But you do want to sell them so it will have to be reasonable. How small is that? It is, as alot here have stated, better to start a little lower and then raise the price as the demand increases. 45.00 is a very good place to start. Not too low but not so high it's not affordable. And they are adorable i might add. By the way, thanks for your comment on my blog. I still have to figure out how to reply to someone's comment. I'm going to post again right after this so be on the lookout!!. Talk soon, Lew

ask it. If you don't get it, lower it. Pets are very special to people so you probably would get the $45. Good luck on it!!!

Wonderful pug, Sheila! Very cute and the mini easel is a very nice addition. I agree with what has been said about pricing.

I seldom offer an opinion about anything :-P, but $45 seems a little high, 44.99 would be more reasonable. Seriously, your pug is great and well worth $45. That's a good price to start with. I'm sure, as you do the "poochtraits" your skills and techniques will further heighten and then your prices can heighten. Actually, I may be doing the same thing, but there's a lotta pets out there.

I think it is not so easy to paint such a small portrait (2.5 x 2.5 inches), so $45 seems like a bargain. If you are comfortable doing this size, then you should start at the lowest price you are happy with.
By the way, I love this pug painting!

Hi Sheila. Thats a good price for that size, and the mini easel is a bonus!

Nice Pug Portrait!

This is cute and colorful. Looks like a good starting price and then go up as everyone says. Good luck and have fun.

The pug looks great Sheila! I think that 45.00 is very reasonable, and I agree that if these are commissions, you should look at how long these take you to make, and price accordingly. The easel is a bonus, and add on shipping costs.
